Universal Studios Hollywood creative director John Murdy has been heating up his Twitter account with updates and hint previews of the three announced Halloween Horror Nights mazes. These are only a few of John’s tweets, so go see the rest.
First the Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D maze teasers:
Time for some Saturday afternoon HHN 2012 trivia, let’s start with the most recent announcement Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D…..
When I first starting working with Alice, came up with a trilogy of maze concepts, each one was progressively more complex/ambitious…
Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D is #2, no idea if we’ll ever get to #3…only time will tell. There’s some very large scenes in Goes to Hell…
If you look at our website, you see a reference to the 7 Deadly Sins. That comes from Dante’s Inferno, doing our own Alice spin on that
Next a few hints about which characters you’ll see in person in Silent Hill:
Now a little trivia on Silent Hill….this maze will feature elements from the games and the films. Pretty much using the whole property.
Just started working on the audio from Silent Hill, have the entire new film to work with plus tons of stuff from the games.
When you’re working with a property like Silent Hill, there’s so many choices…but some things you have to include. Pyramid Head!
He’s an insane character, incredibly hard to pull off but you want to see him in the flesh, not a static dummy. You’ll meet him!
And of course there’s the Nurses, you have to have them…you’ll encounter them too…and some treats for the fans of the game!
The Silent Hill monsters are crazy, some are impossible to pull off with actors…but we’re gonna try. Total science project!
And finally a few updates about The Walking Dead maze:
And finally a few words about Walking Dead. The [facade] is insane! You’ll see lots of scenes inspired by season 1 and 2.
For WD, it’s as if you are one of the survivors…and the walkers are coming for YOU
Being a lifelong Alice Cooper fan, Murdy is definitely doubling down on his 2012 Coop-themed maze and expanding its scale over last year’s popular Welcome to My Nightmare. Murdy even mentions having to tear down an entire wall of the T2:3D attraction queue to make enough room for Goes to Hell 3D, which now takes the place of Rob Zombie’s 3D maze built there the previous two years. As Murdy says, his three Coop-based maze concepts get more elaborate and complex with each advancement, so this year Alice will really go big with theme elements inspired by Dante’s Inferno.
Now video game and haunt fans know for certain that Murdy and his Orlando counterparts will be adapting elements from the entire Silent Hill franchise, including all the games and the two feature films. This makes good sense since there’s no doubt that Open Road will use Silent Hill’s appearance at HHN as a promotional opportunity to raise anticipation for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D opening in theaters October 26. Perhaps most exciting are the hints that Murdy and gang are doing their best to bring all the iconic Silent Hill creatures and characters to life including Pyramid Head, the Nurses and others to scare guests in-person. This is a huge challenge, possibly one of HHN’s biggest creative gambles yet, but the potential payoff is huge as long as they can bring Silent Hill’s eerie horror sense to gamers and non-gamers alike.
The Walking Dead maze likely offers the least surprises as a maze theme, given how wildly popular the hit horror cable series has become in two short seasons. But guests walking in the tracks of the few human survivors amid a murderous plague of reanimated corpses lurking around every dark corner will be a HHN experience to savor!
