Today Universal Studios Hollywood creative director John Murdy revealed the identity of the final maze theme at Halloween Horror Nights 2012 via Twitter and Facebook: a very faithful tribute to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 notorious horror film THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. This theme certainly promises raw, reliable in-your-leatherface scares to round out HHN’s roster this season that features two very experimental themes: Uni’s first-ever video game maze adaptation of the Silent Hill franchise and the recently announced monster mash dance party maze Universal Monsters Remix.
According to the maze logo art’s tagline “The Saw is the Law.” This is a very accurate statement in the haunt event rulebook since the sputtering scream of a chainsaw motor renders haunt guests weak-kneed and terrified by their sound alone, never mind the typically masked brutes who wield actually chase scared guests across the park.
Murdy tweeted to fans during the reveal that they can expect a faithfully detailed recreation of Hooper’s original shocker, from including the teenage victims including “whiny Franklin. God I wanted to chainsaw him in the movie! He will pay!” to representing the entire Sawyer family: “Leatherface, Old Man, The Hitchhiker, Grandpa…you’ll meet them all.”
Given how horror-savvy Murdy and his creative team are, expect plenty of maze design and set decoration details from the film to appear with uncanny accuracy, recreating the suspense and terror from Hooper’s landmark frightfest. HHN Hollywood has demonstrated their detached eye and talented gut instinct for expertly translating very well known feature films into haunt mazes with past themes based on FRIDAY THE 13TH and HALLOWEEN, nailing both the plot details plus the less obvious moods and tones specific to such movies. Expect no less in Hollywood this season as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre roars to life to scare you to death! Watch the video trailer announcement below for a taste of the terror in store:
