More Monsterpalooza video: how John Murdy designs a Halloween Horror Nights maze

This past weekend I attended Eliot Brodsky’s vast and quite crowded Monsterpalooza convention in Burbank, CA and will continue my recap with the second of three videos I shot during the Halloween Horror Nights 2013 panel hosted by Universal Studios Hollywood creative director John Murdy (@HorrorNights) and art director Chris Williams.

In this video, Murdy and Williams take fans on a quick verbal and slide tour of their maze design process, using 2012’s Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D maze at HHN Hollywood. From concept inspiration to in-depth visual and literary research and finally pitching the maze to Cooper himself, Murdy highlights this lengthy and time-consuming process necessary to yield such movie-quality maze experiences at HHN.

This maze design video follows my earlier video announcement of the HHN Fan-Created Creature Contest as they appear in the Universal Halloween Horror Nights 2013 playlist on SWCS’s YouTube channel. Feel free to subscribe and watch more videos on my own haunt work from Eli Roth’s Goretorium plus other interesting theme park attraction events. HHN panel video part 3 will be blogged soon.
